In fact some ran better on the Mini than they do on my old iPad Pro.ĭisco Elysium (M1 Game) - So oddly this was the one that performed a little worse for wear. Other than the game maybe not liking running on MacOS, no game had any performance issues. IOs games - Ran a smattering of low graphic and higher graphic games. I was expecting issues, but the game ran flawlessly and pushed 60FPS the majority fo the time.

Running it with about 30 mods (compute & graphical), and not one issue at 4k w/ all settings maxed. I didn't play to end game so not sure if there is any slowdown there, but it was responsive throughout.Ĭrusader Kings III - Another Paradox spreadsheet simulator but with much richer 3d graphics than Stellaris. I ran it with about 60 mods running (some compute heavy and some graphical). Stellaris - Paradox game that is pretty compute intensive and graphical space battles. Load times went to <5 seconds compared to my late 2013 iMac and in many cases <1 sec. For those who haven't played it's 3d top down game, with really rich animated details and lots of SFX when you have multiple toons firing off spells and skills. Dropping resolution to 2K hit a steady unwavering 60fps.

Pathfinder:Kingmaker - This is a unity 3d game. Fans ran frequently on this old beast and no game could be run at max res & max settings.Īcross the board all of the games ran well. My thought process was, a game can stretch the Mini, but why not see what it does when there were a lot of other things happening at once that a typical user might do. Throughout playing with each game any (or all) of the following was happening as well: indexing 1000s of files via DevonThink Multiple online apps running (Steam, Safari, Mail, Photos, Music, etc) Multiple system monitoring apps running (Little Snitch) File Transfers to a NAS (large and small files small and large batches). I also decided to stress the system by not just gaming. I tried a few iOS games, Mac Rosetta and M1 ready. So that was kinda expected, but I sorta hoped for something well.

And it was due to it being a 32 bit game, that failed on my old Mac as well. I threw about a dozen games at my Mini and all but one failed (Endless Legends). Nearly everything ran flawlessly except for 1 game that didn't run.

Tl dr: Hot damn this puppy runs like it's coated in butter.

I also didn't test any PC games running through emulation. Just me hammering the system to see what happens. Please note this is not an exhaustive, nor scientific, approach. So naturally I put it through some gaming paces to see how well it performed. I picked up a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB of ram.
